Meet, Greet & Share for HSP: Cultural differences between HSP

In Meet, Greet & Shares for HSP, we get together with likeminded people to share our challenges, thoughts, feelings, experiences and stories about a certain theme.

During these two hours, we start off with a meditation to ground into ourselves, we have a cup of tea and we share.

We end the meeting with a meditation to integrate what we’ve learned and gain new insights from a subconscious and spiritual perspective about the subject. You’ll go home feeling accepted, connected and enthusiastic.

Today’s topic is Cultural differences between Highly Sensitive People.

Cultural differences between Highly Sensitive People

Do you have experience with different cultures? Did you notice a difference in how HSP are accepted and understood?

Growing up in an Indonesian family in the Netherlands, I noticed early in life that some Indonesian values were not valued here in the Netherlands, For example, I was always appreciated by Indonesian friends for being so shy and quiet.

However, I learned that Dutch people, and even Indonesian people that have lived here for a long time, could not deal with this trait and perceived me as someone that couldn’t stand up for herself.

For a long time, I believed this. Fortunately, I learned that being direct, honest and standing up doesn’t necessarily have to be the ‘Dutch way’. I can be all that in my own respectful, yet clear manner.

I am curious to learn what other cultural differences you may have encountered and how you dealt with them. Maybe we have tips for each other. I definitely have some tips for the non-Dutch HSPs that live here.

Let’s get together to share.
